I Am Blessed—Not Because Everything Is Perfect
We often say “I’m blessed” when something good happens.
A prayer is answered. We reach a goal. Our children accomplish something we’re proud of. We travel somewhere beautiful or receive an opportunity we’ve been hoping for.
And yes, those are blessings worth celebrating.
But over the years, I’ve come to understand being blessed a little differently.
I am blessed no matter what my circumstances are.
Not because everything in my life is perfect, and not because of what I’ve accomplished or accumulated, but because of who I am in Christ and what I have received through Him.
Blessed in Every Season
Life has seasons.
Some are filled with celebrations and answered prayers. Others bring uncertainty, disappointment, waiting, and changes we never expected.
If I define God’s blessing only by the good things happening around me, then my definition of blessed would have to change whenever my circumstances change.
But Scripture reminds me of something much more secure.
Ephesians 1:3 tells us that God has blessed us “with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”
That changes how I look at the word blessed.
My greatest blessings aren’t dependent on my circumstances. They are rooted in Christ—His grace, love, forgiveness, presence, and the hope I have in Him.
So even when everything isn’t perfect, I can still say, “I am blessed.”
A Footprint of Faith
This is one truth I want to carry with me through every season:
I am blessed—not because everything in my life is perfect, but because my blessing is rooted in Christ.
And perhaps being blessed also gives us an opportunity to ask:
How can I use what God has given me to bless someone else?
Maybe that’s one of the footprints faith is meant to leave behind—
not simply a life that has been blessed, but a life that became a blessing. ❤️
