🌴 Oʻahu — Waikiki, History & Island Adventures

🌺 Aloha, Oʻahu!

After four unforgettable days in Maui, our Hawaii adventure wasn't over yet. We hopped on a plane and continued to the second island of our seven-day trip—Oʻahu!

One of the things that surprised us was how affordable island-hopping was at the time. If I remember correctly, our flight from Maui to Oʻahu was only around $50 per person, making our decision to experience two islands in one vacation even sweeter.

And almost immediately, Oʻahu felt different.

Maui had given us winding roads, rainforests, waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, and quiet stretches of beautiful coastline. Oʻahu welcomed us with a different energy—Waikiki, Honolulu, history, famous landmarks, island food, and plenty more to explore.

We had only three days, so once again, we were determined to make them count.

Maui was complete. Waikiki was waiting. 🌊🌺👣

🌋 Diamond Head — Almost to the Top!

One of the places we really wanted to experience in Oʻahu was Diamond Head, the island's famous volcanic crater.

We made our way toward Diamond Head excited to do the hike, only to discover that we couldn't continue because out-of-state visitors needed an advance online reservation—and unfortunately, we didn't have one.

We were so close, too! 😂

Of course, we were a little disappointed, but that's part of traveling. Sometimes even the best plans don't work out exactly the way you imagined.

Instead, we enjoyed the incredible panoramic views from Kahala Lookout. The scenery was beautiful, and what could have felt like a missed experience became another memorable stop on our Oʻahu adventure.

And we decided there was only one way to look at it:

🚌 Exploring Honolulu — Sometimes Plan B Is Better

We wanted to spend some time exploring Honolulu, so naturally we considered renting a car for the day.

Then we saw the price.

Around $700 for one day?! 😳

That was an easy decision. 😂 Instead of renting a car, we decided to explore Honolulu using the bus.

And you know what? It turned out to be part of the adventure.

Rather than worrying about driving, navigating unfamiliar streets, or finding parking, we could sit back and actually look around as we traveled through the city. We saw different parts of Honolulu and got a little glimpse of everyday island life along the way.

Apparently, we weren't the only visitors who had the same idea. We noticed plenty of other tourists riding the bus and exploring Honolulu just like we were.

What started as our Plan B because of an expensive rental car turned into a fun and memorable way to experience the city.

Sometimes the best travel memories happen when you simply change the plan. 🚌🌺👣

🍍 A Taste of the Islands

Of course, no Faithful Footprints journey would be complete without talking about the food! 😋

Part of the fun of traveling for our family has always been trying different foods along the way, and Hawaii was no exception.

We enjoyed different island dishes during our stay, but one treat was especially hard to forget—a huge shave ice served right inside a pineapple! 🍍🍧

Cold, colorful, refreshing, and absolutely perfect for the Hawaiian weather, it was one of those simple vacation treats that definitely deserved a place in our photo album. 😂

Looking at these food photos years later brings back more than just what we ate. They remind me of where we were, what we were doing that day, and the fun of sitting down together after another day of exploring.

Because for us, travel has never been only about seeing a place.

It's also about tasting it. 🌺🍍👣❤️

👣 A Footprint to Remember

Seven days. Two islands. One unforgettable family adventure.

Maui gave us the winding Road to Hana, waterfalls and brave cliff jumps, black sand, beautiful coastlines, the clouds beneath our feet at Haleakalā, and an evening of Hawaiian culture that somehow ended with Jael and me learning to hula together. 😂🌺

Then Oʻahu gave us a completely different side of Hawaii—the energy of Waikiki, beautiful island views, our almost-Diamond-Head adventure, exploring Honolulu by bus, a meaningful visit to Pearl Harbor, and, of course, some delicious island food along the way.

Our visit to Pearl Harbor became more meaningful when I looked deeper into how the events of December 7, 1941 were connected not only to American history, but also to the history of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

Looking back, I'm so glad we decided to split our week between two islands. We may have had only seven days, but those seven days gave our family memories that have lasted for years.

And perhaps that's what I love most about traveling.

Every destination gives us something different. Some places give us adventure. Some teach us history. Some challenge us to try something new. And some simply give us time together.

Maui and Oʻahu became two more beautiful footprints in our family's journey. 🌺👣❤️

We've experienced 2 of Hawaii's 7 main inhabited islands so far.

Which means...

Five more islands are still waiting for our footprints someday. 🌴🌊👣
